“Sand Dollar”
a 1984 Nauticat 43 Center-Cockpit, Ketch-Rigged, Pilothouse Sailboat.
The Nauticat 43 is a timeless symbol of craftsmanship, combining robust design with a spirit of adventure. Launched by the Finnish boatbuilder Sitala Yachts in the 1970s, the Nauticat 43 quickly became renowned for its durability, performance, and classic beauty. Designed by the esteemed designer Olle Enderlein, this ketch-rigged cruiser was engineered to handle both coastal and oceanic voyages with ease.
Sitala Yachts, the visionary company behind the Nauticat series, gained a reputation for creating vessels that balanced luxury with exceptional seaworthiness. Over the years, the Nauticat 43 has been celebrated by sailors and cruising enthusiasts worldwide for its spacious interior, stable performance, and ability to provide comfort in even the harshest conditions.
The Ultimate Expedition Machine
As we embark on our journey around the world, we’re transforming our Nauticat 43 into the ultimate off-grid expedition machine. Our refit is focused on enhancing her already impressive design with the latest technologies, ensuring she’s capable of supporting long-term, self-sufficient living while exploring the most remote corners of the planet.
From installing solar panels and energy-efficient systems to optimizing storage and outfitting her with robust navigation and communication tools, every upgrade is aimed at making her more capable and comfortable. We’re also reinforcing her deck, upgrading the rigging, and ensuring all systems are built to withstand the challenges of remote oceanic expeditions.
Our goal is to create a vessel that is as ready for adventure as we are—self-sufficient, durable, and prepared to take on whatever the open ocean throws our way.
A Look Inside
The Nauticat 43 boasts a thoughtful and functional layout that makes living and sailing aboard a truly enjoyable experience. At the heart of the interior is the iconic pilothouse, offering an elevated view of the surrounding seas, perfect for safe, all-weather navigation. The helm station, centrally located in the pilothouse, provides excellent visibility and easy access to all essential controls, making it the ideal command center for both short sails and long passages. With its large windows, the pilothouse allows you to stay connected to the world outside, even when you’re sheltered from the elements.
Just forward of the pilothouse is the spacious saloon, designed for relaxation and socializing. The large U-shaped seating area offers comfort while underway or at anchor, and the dining table can easily accommodate your crew. A full galley is located to port, with a stove, oven, and fridge, plus plenty of storage for provisions.
The aft section of the boat features a roomy owner’s cabin with a large double berth, ample storage, and an en-suite head with shower. The V-birth guest cabin forward offers similar comfort, with a double berth and easy access to the second head. The layout maximizes space and flow, ensuring you have everything you need for both comfort and practicality while cruising.
With plenty of storage and living areas thoughtfully designed for long-distance cruising, the Nauticat 43 is as functional as it is comfortable
